' How I got £ 13,000 for two cars '

Here's how to get £ 12,000 towards a brand new car.

David issues with an Alfa Romeo Hearns Mito under the scrappage scheme 's-and accepted a trade-in offer to save even more.

The 42-year-old from Hampshire opted for a 1.4-litre turbo Mito Veloce, priced at £ 15,495.

David said: "I was tempted by various menus in a £ 4,000 scrappage offer on a 3.2-litre Alfa Romeo Brera S.

"But after signing on the dotted line, I had changed my mind. Luckily the dealership let me strike a new deal on a Mito. "

The Alfa Romeo Meridien Milano dealership in Portsmouth offered £ 2,000 for his David 1997 Volkswagen Polo under scrappage.

They then offered an extra £ 10,000 for his other car-Alfa Romeo GT a/c 2006-which David issues with for just £ 10,500 a few years earlier.

"I was not delighted with the deal-the Polo had 99,000 miles on the clock and needed a lot of work to put right!

David picked up the ' 59-plate ' Mito on September 4 after ordering it at the beginning of August.

"It was very straightforward-all I had to provide was my old car's MOT certificate, V5 document and a copy of my insurance details."

So is it really true what they say about Alfa Romeo drivers-that they only stick to driving Alfas?

"It is true-I first drove an Alfa 166 saloon a few years back and haven't looked back since. It was just the noise of it which sold me. "

Always get an expert valuation before selling or trading in your car. You could get more money by selling privately or get a better deal through a dealership, depending on the make and model.
