New metal: Fiat 500L

• Roomier version of fashionable city car
• Debuts at Geneva Motor Show in March
• On sale late 2012

Fiat has released details of its latest model, the Fiat 500L.

Joining the convertible and performance oriented Abarth versions? the 500L is the fourth model in the 500 line-up.

The 500L is Essentially a larger, roomier version of the hatchback version, in a similar style to the Mini Countryman. Fiat claims it will offer the passenger space of an MPV and the feel of a 4 × 4 on the road, whilst maintaining the diminutive dimensions and efficient, responsive engines which make the normal 500 such a capable car.

Initially it will be available with two petrol engines, including a 1.4-litre and a version of Fiat’s award winning TwinAir motor, and also a 1.3-litre turbodiesel.

The 500L will be making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6, before going on sale in Europe in the last quarter of 2012.
