• Prices confirmed for driver focussed coupe
• From £ 24,995 on the road
• On sale from June
Prices for the forthcoming Toyota GT 86 have been confirmed.
Costing £ 24,995 on the road, the announcement ends months of speculation on whether Toyota was to keep to its promise of delivering an affordable driver focussed car.
The GT 86 marks a return to the sports car market for Toyota. It is unique at this price point, with its closest competitor, the Nissan 370Z, costing £ 5,000 more at £ 29,950 in basic trims.
Instead it competes on price with hot hatchbacks, including the Volkswagen Golf GTI, Renaultsport Megane 250 and the forthcoming Ford Focus ST.
Utilising the classic layout of front engine and rear wheel drive, the GT 86 will be available with a 2.0-litre petrol engine, which boxer – 197bhp. Power is sent through a six-speed manual gearbox, with an automatic transmission available as an option. A limited slip differential is also fitted as standard to maximise available grip, particularly during track driving.
Toyota is currently taking advanced orders for those wanting to be first to own a new GT 86. Further price and specification details are due to be announced before the car officially goes on sale in June.
